Nobody sees the world quite the way that Promise did. Although being blind was a major reason for this fact, it was largely due to her infectious charm and cheerful disposition. Promise never met a stranger. Fate definitely knew what it was doing when our family piled in the car and made the drive to meet what would be the glue that held our crew together.
The Rubia family size has always fluctuated due to an open door and a consistent ebb and flow of new furry friends in need of a home. All creatures big and small have resided in our home, but none were quite as special as our ever-grinning girl.
Promise was the total package.
Beauty? Check.
Brains? Check.
Impeccable comedic timing? Double check.
Though her origins are not certain, the scar around her snout and her blind eye suggested that they were not the most kind.
We arrived at the rescue to meet Promise years ago and it was love at first sight. Sure, there were plenty of other adorable options (honorable mention goes to Jimmy), but Promise stole the show. She was a little hesitant about us at first, but quickly made herself comfortable in the car and in our hearts for the ride home.
You never really realize it in the moment, but there is so much that can be learned from dogs.
Promise taught us patience. She taught us how to go with the flow and enjoy life's little blessings. One of her favorite past times was sitting on her back porch in an adirondack chair watching the sunlight play off of the ripples in the lake. There were countless lessons to be derived from our time with Promise, but the most important one was that of unconditional love. Promise loved us so much, and the feeling was more that mutual.
Promise was with my parents for half of their marriage. She was with me for half of my life and the better half of my sister's. She was a constant source of joy and support. The absence of her presence will definitely be difficult to navigate.
Promise passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024 at 8:45 am surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her sister and best friend, Dobby.
Thank you for choosing us to be your family. We love you, Prom-Prom.
