Have you ever had a stranger just show up at your house and make themselves at home? It's always kind of weird because you find yourself in a limbo of "do we ask them to leave?" and "which Christmas stocking do you think they would like best?". Dobbie was the pet we never asked for, but one that we couldn't imagine our lives without.
Dobbie was preceded in death by several fur siblings, but the most recent was her big sister Promise in January of 2024.
Promise was described as the glue that held our family close. This is very true. Glue is a bonding agent used to join materials together. Dobbie was more of a staple gun: equally as effective in keeping things fastened with a little more spontaneity. Sure, there weren't always staples and sometimes it got jammed, but the good intentions and helpful disposition were always there.
Dobbie often buried things and talked to inanimate objects. These were frequently dubbed as 'aliens' from her home planet. I always suspected that these were angels, and that she was just protecting our family by their instruction. She was always special and intuitive in a way that is unmatched by any pet we have ever known. She definitely had more than a sixth sense, but even bigger was her loyalty and love for her chosen family.
Words cannot express how happy we are that nobody responded to the Craigslist ad for a "found adult dog". We certainly would not have been the same as a family without her. She gave unwavering companionship to her sister Promise, years of antics and devotion to our crew.
Dobbie passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024 at 2:35 pm surrounded by her family.
We are forever grateful for the love, joy, and protection that she provided our household.
We love you, Dobb-Dobb.
